Open Source Solutions NPIT Project Notes Requested by: T. Kieffer, copyrights Unisys Corporation
PLAY MULTIMEDIA WEB VERSION

The Web Version includes ALL FILES EXCEPT the following:
autorun.exe - opens the README.PDF on the CD
38333852-000_Open_Source_Solutions.html
38333852-000_Open_Source_Solutions.swf
swf/app_defender_zip.swf
additional_resources/Application_Defender_Supplementary_NPIT_Material.zip
38333852-000_Open_Source_Solutions.html = CD VERSION

The CD Version includes ALL FILES EXCEPT the following:
Open_Source_Solutions.html
Open_Source_Solutions.swf
swf/app_defender_collateral.swf
additional_resources/41367277.pdf
additional_resources/41367426.pdf

The difference between the CD Version and the Web Version is as that the online version does not include the .ZIP file as it's too large to be practical for web download. It only includes 2 PDFs from the ZIP file. So I made 2 different interfaces and the reference to the Application Defender Additional Resources Collateral flash page is slightly different to accomodate the shorter or longer version. Note: I did not include the ZIP here either. It is stored with the archive project files.

FLASH: 12 fps Exported to .swf and .html

POWERPOINTS:
Did entire NPIT and powerpoints in new Corporate Format. When converting from PowerPoint to Flash, since powerpoint uses a slightly darker pallette, I converted any color blocks to the lighter Corporate web pallette in Flash and saved a little memory.
Unisys Red=#DB0029, Orange=#FF6309, Warm Red=#FE4110, Dk Gry=#3B3B3B, Dk Magenta=#A5027E, Purple=#6B1687, Gold=#FEA520, Lt Gry=#9D9D82, Pink=#F21E8C, Turquoise=#007D9A.

Screen captures: resaved all screen captures from PowerPoint as png or gif, cropped, resized and fixed them in Photoshop. Then saved them to .jpg in order for them to not come out fuzzy in Flash.

The PowerPoints were saved as web pages to html with the following settings:
Display speaker Notes
Browser support: All browsers listed above
Web Options:
General
Black text on white Nav controls
Show slide animation while browsing
Resize graphics to fit browser window
Browsers
MS Explorer 6.0 or later
Allow PNG
Save addit version for older browsers
Save new Web pages as single file web pages
Files
Organize supporting files in a folder
Use long names whenever possible
UPdate links on save
Check if Office is default editor
Pictures - Screen size: 800 x 600
Encoding - Western European (Windows)
Fonts
Character Set: English/Western European/Other Latin script
Proportional font: Arial 12
Fixed-width font: Courier New 10

PROBLEM FILES: Some animation - eg. transparent overlays - had to be altered or it came out BLACK in the html version.
Also. Slide 5 of the Application Defender presentation - due to it's very small type on the right side - with color blocks behind it: When saved as .html file, the white type showed BEYOND the purple background block - so I had to expand the blocks to longer than usual. They show'd fine at a higher resolution, but at 1024 x 768, the problem showed up.

Windows Media Player was required because of the Camtasia demos in the zip file.

This interface has different button interactivity than the j2ee npit in 2005 as far as the flash actionscript.
The buttons themselves open each movie in the interface and there's a 2nd instance of each button to show that you've already clicked on it - helps user to know what they've already viewed.

Added to the Readme.pdf due to the latest Microsoft and Macromedia Player security:

"Due to your current browser security settings, you may get a Macromedia dialogue box. If so, click on SETTINGS in the message. It will take you to the Macromedia live Global Security Settings Panel:
[add security.jpg here]
Select ALWAYS ALLOW, and if necessary add the path of the .swf file to the locations dialogue box. You should then be able to open the Macromedia Flash presentation without a problem."

Macromedia URL Live Security Panel is, but I don't think we should include it as it may change: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.html

Windows Player URL
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.aspx

Macromedia Shockwave Player URL
http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/

Also, the following is the new paragraph for the flash screen that lists the html versions of the powerpoints - you might want to add the activeX comment to the readme.pdf as well:

"An html version of the modules in this presentation are linked below. These presentations use activeX and, depending on your browser security settings, you may have to click in the "warning" area of the browser window and select "allow blocked content". A powerpoint version can be found in the Additional Resources folder on the CD-ROM. The audio script for each presentation is included in the Notes Pages of the PowerPoint and html versions. If you wish to print the notes, copy the .ppt files to your hard drive. To view the notes, change the VIEW to NOTES PAGES in PowerPoint. To print them, change the PRINT WHAT option to NOTES PAGES in your printer menu."
